This is a Learning video Part Two
On Sunday , October 24, 2010 we had our first ever class on how to operate the 80' Wheel lathe, We also had our lead wheel axle set to resuface the journals. It was also the first time using the new over head crane. The crane was just in stall last week.
Crew Member Jim took this video, Steamtown employee Bruce uses the exothermic torch on some stuborn pins that will not come out. This part is from DL&W 565, currently undergoing cosmetic restoration. This part is over 100 years old, and has not been used in almost 40 years.
Here it is, after a month I have finaly finished my compilation video of the DL&W 565 wordays that i was involved with. This video showcases the work we have done since August 2009 (that was when i joined the crew) through the end of the season. For more 565 videos, check out my channel and Len's channel, which is who is currently the lead person and to who you should contact if you too would like to assist in restoring 565. A date of January 23 has been set, weather permiting, to kick off the 2010 season. Hope to see you then.
Happy New Year from Project 565 to every one who has been watching our progress on the DL&W Steam Locomotive.
No. 304 is Ex NKP No. 44 the oldest NKP locomotive in the world. It's part of the collection of Steamtown N.H.S.
Posted by Jim Here is a short video of some of what was done on Halloween. I didn't get much done because the nosel kept clogging. Kelsey got a lot done, but unfortunatly I didn't get to taking pics of all that she did. I had a creepier vision in mind, but windows movie maker couldn't handel what I had in mind.
On Thursday October 22, I took a trip up to Steamtown to prepare for the Workday on the 31st. which is a week away. All the small looses parts that were sand blasted at our last workday in September, I primer painted and then placed them on a wooden pallet, that I took up, It has sides so the parts don't roll off. Keep watching part of the video, you will see the Ghost of Project 565 around frame 5:57 . Hope you enjoy the video.
In this video you will see in side the water tank of the tender and you will all see and hear Jim sand blasting the Aux. Steam dome in the big blaster booth. Hear him explain what he is doing. So sit back an enjoy the video.
